A new poll has found that immigration has become the top issue for potential voters this November, and that a majority of Americans are in favor of mass deportation.
This is according to two recent polls, one conducted by Fox News and another conducted by Harvard University and market research firm The Harris Poll. The Fox News poll was carried out by Braun Research, Inc. between March 22 and 25. The Harvard/Harris poll was conducted between March 20 and 21.
Respondents to the Fox News poll were first asked whether they approved or disapproved of President Joe Biden’s handling of immigration, and the results were not good for the incumbent.
Two-thirds of those surveyed, 67 percent, disapproved of Biden’s handling of immigration, compared to just 30 percent who were happy with the job the president is doing on the issue.
That 30 percent approval rating is Biden’s lowest on the issue in the 35 months Fox News has been surveying this question; on the contrary, the 67 percent disapproval rating is the president’s worst on immigration ever.
Meanwhile, the Harvard/Harris poll further cemented how immigration is the top issue for voters, with 36 percent of those surveyed noting how immigration is at the top of their concerns.
According to a new CBS News/YouGov poll, a strong majority of registered voters, as well as most Hispanics, would support a national program to deport illegal aliens from America.
The poll, published on Sunday, June 9, discovered that 62 percent of registered voter respondents would back “a new national program to deport all undocumented immigrants” that are currently residing illegally in the United States, while 38 percent of voters would oppose such a program.
A majority of 53 percent of Hispanics would support the deportation of illegal migrants altogether, while 47 percent would be against it. (Related: New poll shows rising Latino support for border wall, mass deportation of illegals.)
The majority of Republicans (88 percent) and independents (60 percent) would back a vast deportation effort, as would a considerable minority of Democrats (38 percent).
Former President Donald Trump, who is currently leading in national polls over Biden, has been a strong proponent of a nationwide deportation program against illegal immigrants. He has repeatedly vowed to carry out “the largest domestic deportation operation in American history” if re-elected. Recently, during a campaign stop in Phoenix, Arizona, Trump said he wants “deportation” of illegal aliens, while “Biden wants an invasion.”
The CBS News/YouGov poll further noted that, if a national deportation program came to fruition, most respondents would approve of local law enforcement units being empowered to track down and identify illegal immigrants in their communities.
Sixty-two percent said they would support “local police and law enforcement trying to identify which people were U.S. citizens, and which were undocumented immigrants.”
A majority of independents (57 percent) and a supermajority of Republicans (84 percent) would be in favor of police being dispatched to identify illegal immigrants in the event of a national deportation operation. Interestingly, nearly half of Democrats (45 percent) would also support this.
