The demise of Europe has begun and hardly anyone has noticed. You can tell because there is little discussion of it in places where such events traditionally would be discussed, such as in the news media.
The continent is being overrun by peoples from many different countries, most of them poor. The vast majority of the silent “invaders” are from cultures that, if not hostile to European mores, are at least diametrically opposed to them, most of which are rooted in Christianity. And while there are some public officials calling for an end or lengthened interruption of the exodus, far too many leaders are throwing open the doors to their kingdoms, having been guilted into doing so by bogeymen from the past who still haunt the national psyche.
Germany is a perfect case in point. Chancellor Angela Merkel has already authorized 800,000 mostly Syrian refugees to enter her country, and there are indications she may be willing to let more in.
“We’ve got to reckon there will be 800,000 people coming to Germany as refugees or seeking asylum,” said the interior minister, Thomas de Maiziere, as reported by The Guardian.
“It will be the largest influx in the country’s post-war history,” de Maiziere told a news conference in Berlin, further noting that Germany is likely to see high numbers of migrants for many years.
“It’s a challenge for all of us at the state, federal and local levels,” he said. “We can master this challenge. I don’t think this will overwhelm Germany. We can handle this.”
Famous last words. What Germany – whose notoriously evil chancellor, Adolph Hitler, once wanted to create a xenophobic Third Reich – is actually doing is committing suicide, slowly but surely. Forced xenophobia via the use of death camps and gas chambers is of course insanely extreme, but there is something to be said for a culture that is largely monolithic; when a nation shares mostly similar values and mores, if not ethnicity, there is much more peace and stability.
But as this problem is applied to the West in general, Ben Shapiro of Breitbart News points out an obvious, glaring and ironic truth: many of the “refugees” Germany is taking in come from countries where militant extremism and barbarism on a level once attained by Hitler is not just commonplace, but the accepted norm. And now, those cultural standards are being imported into the heart of Europe.
“How many Westerners will leftists allow to die in order to achieve their utopian vision of a multicultural world without borders?
“That’s the question of the day as leftists from country to country declare that a few days after 129, people were slaughtered wholesale in France, and the day after two suicide bombers blew themselves up in Paris, the West should refrain from ‘overreacting’ to the threat of radical Islam.”
What is an “overreaction” in this instance? Some would say the Germany policy of accepting virtually anyone who can crawl out of Syria into Bavaria is an overreaction to its past, and an extreme one at that.
Sleepwalking to destruction
But Barack Obama is not one of those people. Despite Paris 1 and Paris 2 (the Charlie Hebdo attack earlier this year, plus the latest act of terrorism), he continues to insist that only a bigot racist Republican would oppose his own efforts to bring as many potential jihadis into the United States as he can possibly import.
Because, you know, that’s the “right thing to do.” Like allowing illegal immigrants by the tens of thousands to flood across our own borders – illegals who bring their own cultural mores, criminal pasts and extremism with them.
Maybe the right thing to do in this case is exactly the opposite of what Obama and Merkel want. Maybe the right thing to do is to destroy what is driving so many out of the Middle East – so they don’t have to leave their homes.
“Underlying all of this is a barely-concealed sense of blitheness about what just happened in Paris – or, for that matter, what has happened on American soil on 9/11, or at Fort Hood, or in Boston, or in Chattanooga, or in Garland, Texas,” writes Shapiro.
That’s what happens when leaders sleepwalk their nations down a path to destruction.
